His father owned some land in the Green Fork community so he grew most of his own food and feed as was the custom of the time and cotton for needed cash. George W had a small store and sold general merchandise. He would go to Augusta GA on the train to pick up supplies for the farm and store when needed. He had a farm shop where he built most of his plows and tools needed for the farm and to sell in the store.
